Former Liverpool player's Raheem Sterling verdict shows how far Man City star has come

Former England star Glen Johnson has provided a lofty verdict on Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling 's current standing in world football after his strong start to the 2019/20 season.

Sterling has continued on his form from last season by scoring ten goals in all competitions through eleven games, something which has led to praise aplenty.

Johnson, formerly of Liverpool and Chelsea, has been the latest to shower praise on the 24-year-old, who continues to lead the way for Man City and England.

Sterling started off his career at Liverpool but would soon land in the clutches of City after a much-publicised £50m transfer away from Merseyside. Now Johnson feels that Sterling is not only one of the best players in the Premier League, but is a top-five talent in the entire world, with the ex-right-back insisting he never thought the England star would reach this level.

"When Raheem Sterling first burst onto the scene at Liverpool, he showed he had plenty of ability in training and on the pitch but I don’t think any of us saw him becoming the player he is now," Johnson, who was speaking on behalf of BETDAQ, explained.

"He was technically very raw when I played with him. He was all about pace, power and being good in small spaces, but was still technically a fair way off. Some of the stuff he does on the pitch now shows how much he’s improved. He’s so composed in front of goal and seems to have grown out of the loose touches that were in his game a few years ago.

"A few people have said Sterling is one of the top five players in the world and on current evidence, I’d agree. There aren’t many players I’d want more in my front-three more than him. He just seems to get better and better and both Manchester City and England have got a world-class player on their hands."
