Former Liverpool player Mario Balotelli punches own team-mate on bench after being substituted

Former Liverpool and Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli was once again the subject of controversy after he appeared to punch one of his Adana Demirspor team-mates after being substituted.

Balotelli, 31, made 70 Premier League appearances during spells with both City and Liverpool between 2010 and 2015.

The Italy international is now playing his football in Turkey with Adana Demirspor as he joined them from Serie B side Monza in July.

Balotelli's new team drew 1-1 with Konyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Friday night and the striker was substituted in the 56th minute whilst it was still 0-0.

Manager Samet Aybaba decided to make a second early change that saw the frontman make way for Okwuchukwu Francis Ezeh.

Balotelli was visibly unhappy with the substitution as he could be seen raging when he returned to the bench, before throwing an object in frustration and punching a team-mate next to him in the dugout.

Just minutes after the outburst, his side took the lead through former Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough forward Britt Assombalonga.

Balotelli's team were denied all three points, though, as the visitors equalised in the 83rd minute to level the scoreline.

They are currently 14th in the Super Lig table having collected just two points from their opening three matches.

Balotelli joined the club on a free transfer in July as they play top flight football in Turkey for the first time in 26 years.

The striker scored one Premier League goal during his time at Liverpool after the club payed £18m to sign him from AC Milan in 2014, before he eventually joined French side Nice on a free transfer in 2016.

After completing the signing, ex Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was asked what Balotelli would bring to the squad and he joked: “Trouble!”

His latest outburst shows little his changed since his time in England.
