The 73-year-old, who is an honorary life president of the club, picked the perfect match to make his return as the Reds ran out 5-2 winners in a scintillating game.

Divock Origi scored a first-half brace with Xherdan Shaqiri and Sadio Mane also netting in the opening 45 minutes.

Michael Keane and Richarlison netted for Everton as Gini Wijnaldum rounded off a superb performance by the league leaders.

Moores owned 51 per cent of Liverpool before selling his shares to American duo Tom Hicks and George Gillett in 2007.
