The former Liverpool owner David Moores was taken to hospital on Wednesday night after a burglary at his home.
The 69-year-old, who sold Liverpool to Tom Hicks and George Gillett in 2007 and remains the club’s honorary life president, was taken to Aintree hospital where he was treated for leg and head injuries.
Lancashire police are investigating the incident in which Moores was threatened and assaulted by two men, who made off with watches and jewellery, at his home in Halsall.
DI Marc Nasser told the Liverpool Echo: “We believe this was an isolated, targeted attack and I would like to reassure local residents that we have stepped up patrols in the area. The investigation is still in its early stages but if you have any information that could assist us, please do get in touch.”
