Former Liverpool midfielder backs FSG to land 'big' attacking signing for Jurgen Klopp

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes Jurgen Klopp could still make one "big" signing this summer.

The Reds have only recruited RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate so far in the transfer window', meanwhile the club's closest title rivals have spent heavily as they target silverware.

Manchester United have signed Jadon Sancho for £73million and Raphael Varane for an initial £34m fee, Manchester City broke the British transfer record to recruit Jack Grealish and Chelsea are closing in on a £97.5m deal for former striker Romelu Lukaku.

Klopp recently hinted that further business could arise before end of the window and Murphy also hasn't ruled out this idea.

“There is still a chance Liverpool will make one big one," Murphy told talkSPORT when discussing the club's approach potential signings.

“I think so. An attacking one, in the attacking third. I personally wouldn’t sign anybody if I was Klopp, unless I thought they could go into the eleven.

“If you can get one that can play instead of Firmino or instead of Mane then sign him. But there aren’t many about.”

Responding to the criticism that has come Liverpool's way regarding their lack of transfer activity, Murphy added: "I don't agree with the narrative that you have to spend just to be competitive.

"They have got players coming back and they are still the same squad that walked away with that league title."
