Former Liverpool man Steve McManaman has message for Newcastle United fans on takeover situation

Former Liverpool star Steve McManaman has sent a message to Newcastle United fans over the delays with the potential Saudi takeover and their 2019/20 campaign.

Reports this week suggest the proposed takeover has 'stalled indefinitely' while Henry Mauriss is stepping up his interest.

Newcastle fans have been through plenty of ups and downs since the talk of a potential takeover and departure of Mike Ashley first surfaced.

And speaking ahead of Newcastle's clash at home to Liverpool in the Premier League, McManaman sent a message to fans.

The ex-Liverpool midfielder still believes the Magpies have had a good season, though he acknowledges that view may frustrate supporters.

One thing he and Newcastle fans perhaps may agree on is next season could look bleak without any movement on the takeover situation.

He told BT Sport: "It's a real concern for Newcastle (the lack of movement on takeover situation).

"They have had a good season but I can understand why the fans get angry when people say that.

"They want to get back to where they have been. They want to play better football.

"It's going to be hard for them again. They need investment and big investment at that to get them to move on.

"But at the moment they are set for another season next season like this past one."
