Former Liverpool man makes bizarre Tammy Abraham claim and questions Chelsea's Willian decision

Charlie Adam has questioned Tammy Abraham's future at Chelsea.

The attacker was only a substitute in the Blues' Premier League return against Aston Villa, despite being the club's top scorer this season.

Instead, Olivier Giroud started up front and netted the winning goal in the 62nd minute after the Blues had initially fallen behind.

With the Frenchman having recently signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge, former Liverpool midfielder Adam told BBC Radio Five Live's Football Daily that he thinks Tammy Abraham could be third-choice striker when Timo Werner arrives next season.

"I think he could be the B-plan," Adam said of Giroud.

"I think he could be ahead of Abraham at the moment, even when Werner comes in.

"Werner will obviously play through the middle on his own but at the moment, with what Frank's said, Giroud could be ahead of Abraham."

Adam also said that Chelsea should be doing all they can to keep Willian at the club, with the Brazilian winger's contract set to expire this summer.

He said: "Willian will want to stay, they're rumbling on about contracts.

"He wants to stay in London and wants three years but they want to offer him a two-year contract.

"Without a shadow of a doubt you've got to keep Willian, wherever he goes, he makes someone stronger."

Frank Lampard confirmed last week that Chelsea are at least looking to secure a short-term deal with Willian so they have his services for the rest of the season.

"I would have sympathy with the player to make the decision they need," Lampard said.

"If we try to extend the players then we want them to stay, we have conversations going on.

"We want to finish the season with the players we started with."
