Former Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland checks in to rehab

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has checked into rehab.

The 38-year-old, who made 45 appearances for the Reds, confirmed on social media that he had completed his first week at rehabilitation and therapy centre Parkland Place.

The centre say they offer therapy for people "with experience of alcohol addiction, drug addiction, gambling addiction and other harmful behavioural conditions".

Mr Kirkland said he wasn't looking for sympathy after letting his fans know on Twitter that he had checked in for rehabilitation at the North Wales facility but just to show to people that it was fine to "ask for help".

Mr Kirkland bravely revealed his struggles with depression in October 2017 and launched an app hoping to help people suffering with mental health issues in December last year.

The app is called YAPA (‘You Are Perfect Always’) and puts users’ mental health at its forefront.

By sending out ‘Yaps’, users can communicate their emotions and feelings to each other and start the process of opening up about their issues, while also helping others who may be going through a difficult time.
