Former Liverpool FC player aims dig at Manchester United over Paul Dybala transfer

Former Liverpool player Andrea Dossena believes Paulo Dybala is stalling over a transfer to Manchester United because the club are a "construction site at the moment".

The Italian said that Dybala would have joined Liverpool or Man City without hesitation but believes he has concerns about joining United, as everyone waits for the player's decision.

United are in discussions to sign the Juventus star with a potential swap deal with striker Romelu Lukaku on the cards, though the player himself is believed to have the final say on whether the transfer goes ahead.

Dybala has tweeted his admiration for United and Old Trafford in the past, but would be joining a team who are not in the Champions League this season. United have agreed a deal for and want Dybala to join him at Old Trafford before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

And after Liverpool and Man City finished 27 points clear of the chasing pack in last season's Premier League, former midfielder Dossena — who scored a memorable chip against United in a 4-1 win for the Anfield side in 2009 — aimed a dig at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb he said: “If he had to choose to leave Juve to go to United, I’m sure he would make himself available to the new club and could benefit from the atmosphere in the Premier League.

“We are talking about another world football superpower, but United are not ready to win big in Europe so he may as well stay at Juve.

“If the team in question had been Liverpool or Manchester City, in my opinion, he would have had no doubts. United are more of a construction site at the moment, and for this reason, I understand the indecision.”

It remains to be seen whether Dybala will be convinced to make the switch, though MEN Sport understands talks are ongoing and Juventus want to offload the Argentinian to make room for Lukaku. Mario Mandzukic has also been discussed during those talks.

Lukaku seems certain to leave Old Trafford, having also been on Inter Milan's radar this summer.
