Former Liverpool FC defender tells Manchester United to make eight summer signings

Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol says Manchester United need to sign roughly eight new players in the summer transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to rebuild United over the coming months and has already completed the signing of Daniel James from Swansea.

The club are now prioritising a move for Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace before turning their attention to strengthening central midfield and their right wing.

However, Nicol does not believe that would be enough business to make them into Premier League title challengers and suggests Solskjaer needs to sign 'three quarters of a team' this summer alone.

“We can look at this two way,” Nicol said on ESPN FC.

“Are they going to go for value? I’m sure they would like to. But guess what, they’re not going to have an option but to do that.

“Do you think there is any real ‘name’ player is going to go to Manchester United right now? Not a chance.

“So actually if you want to forget how much they’ve got available, who are they going to get regardless of how much money they’ve got?

“Who with a name is going to go to Manchester United right now? Nobody.

“And if it is £100m, what’s that going to get you? One big name or maybe two really good players.

“Manchester United need three quarters of a team. They don’t need one superstar or two good players.

“So whichever way you want to look at it, they’re in desperate trouble.”
