Former Liverpool coach wants reunion with Jurgen Klopp

Former Liverpool coach Neil Critchley has set his sights on a reunion with his old club after guiding Blackpool to a famous FA Cup shock.

Critchley's side produced one of the results of the third round on Saturday when they eliminated Premier League strugglers West Bromwich Albion on penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw.

It was the first time Blackpool had beaten top-flight opposition in the competition since 1976.

Critchley was appointed at Bloomfield Road in March 2020 after six-and-a-half years at Liverpool, where he took charge of the under-18 side before progressing to the U23s in 2017.

And when asked who he wanted the Tangerines to be drawn against in the fourth round on Monday, he replied: "Liverpool."

Of ousting Baggies boss Sam Allardyce, Critchley added: “It’s a great day for us, for the club and the supporters.

“We went toe-to-toe with Premier League opposition and more than matched them for entirety of the game.

"I couldn't be happier with all the boys, from the goalkeeper to the subs who came on - everyone contributed for us.

"We've not had a great record in penalty shoot-outs this season, so it's nice to win one."

Critchley tasted FA Cup success at Liverpool when, with Jurgen Klopp and the senior squad on a winter break, he guided an U23 side to a memorable 1-0 victory in the fourth round replay over Shrewsbury Town at a packed Anfield last February.
