Former Liverpool and England defender issues verdict on Hakim Ziyech to Chelsea transfer

Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has hailed the signing of Ajax star Hakim Ziyech, with it confirmed the Morocco international will move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The 26-year-old will move to the Premier League at the start of July after the two clubs agreed a fee of €40m for his services, which could rise to €44m with add ons.

It represents Frank Lampard's first piece of business in the transfer market, after being restricted last summer by a transfer ban and suffering a frustrating period during the recent January transfer window.

Securing his services before the close of the season provides a real statement of intent from the Blues, with the deal being hailed by Johnson.

"I think he'd be a great signing. For the prices that are knocking about nowadays that could turn out to be cheap," he told TalkSport.

"Obviously, we all know how many goals he's been involved with over the last few years, which is super impressive, and if he can bring that form to the Premier League, he'd be a great signing."

Ziyech will provide Chelsea's attack with a significant boost of creativity, as he has provided 12 assists in 18 Eredivisie appearances this season alongside six league goals.
