Former Liverpool and Chelsea men agree amid prediction for Crystal Palace vs West Ham

Chris Sutton and Mark Lawrenson expect Crystal Palace to draw 1-1 against West Ham United.

The Eagles head into Saturday’s clash at Selhurst Park on the back of a 2-0 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers in midweek.

However, three consecutive wins and a goalless draw against Everton prior to that loss has managed to build some distance between Palace and the relegation zone.

Roy Hodgson’s men are currently eight points clear of the bottom three with five games left to play, whereas Saturday’s opponents West Ham are just five points above the drop zone.

The Hammers also suffered defeat in midweek, losing 2-1 at home against Liverpool. But David Moyes’ side are in decent form after picking up three wins and two draws in their last seven games.

Despite losing to Wolves in midweek, Chris Sutton says he’d be surprised if Palace lost two games in a row. “The Hammers have been much improved in recent weeks but I think they still need another win to get to safety and it is asking a lot for them to get it at Selhurst Park,” Sutton told BBC Sport.

“Crystal Palace’s unbeaten run under Roy Hodgson ended at Molineux on Tuesday after three wins and a draw but it wasn’t as if they played badly. I’d be surprised if they lost again here, especially because I don't think West Ham will keep a clean sheet.”

Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson told Paddy Power: “West Ham were unlucky not to get a penalty against Liverpool on Wednesday. Crystal Palace lost to Wolves. I’m going to go for a draw. Wolves are slowly climbing away from the drop zone and West Ham have had a decent run.”
