Liverpool's Academy director Alex Inglethorpe has confirmed Michael Thomas has taken up a role within the club's Academy.
The former Anfield star has followed in the footsteps of Steve McManaman, Rob Jones and Robbie Fowler who have all spent time coaching at Kirkby.
Thomas, who joined from Arsenal in 1991 two years after scoring the dramatic last minute goal which won the Gunners the league title at Liverpool's expense, and went on to feature 124 times for the Reds, now helps young players coming through the ranks.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Training Ground Guru podcast, cited here, Inglethorpe explained: “I’ve always said with Liverpool, you don’t want to live in the past, but you have to respect it and you have to learn from it.
“And we’re very lucky that Sir Kenny Dalglish comes into the academy and plays a prominent part, Steve McManaman, Rob Jones, Robbie Fowler [too].
“Michael Thomas has just come back in and is starting to work now with some of the young age groups as well.
“So it’s important that we have people around that understand the Liverpool way, that can pass on the baton if you like, or pass on their experience.
“[They do that] whilst understanding that we also want to try and create something new, and we want to create a new history and not live in the previous one.”
