Former Lions including Connor Cook trying out for the new XFL

Connor Cook’s stay with the Detroit Lions didn’t last very long. The former Michigan State standout quarterback was let go by the team not long after being signed this offseason. But Cook isn’t throwing in the towel despite not being able to beat out Tom Savage or David Fales for the right to compete to be Matthew Stafford’s backup in Detroit.

Cook was among over 140 players participating in the XFL’s summer showcase in St. Louis. He’s hoping to latch on with the reincarnated XFL, which will kick off next winter. The upstart league has hosted several summer showcase events for players to audition for coaches and executives.

Clay Harbor and Jacquies Smith also have some Lions experience.

Players will be able to sign with the league soon, according to the XFL’s website.
