Former Lions coach Jim Caldwell takes medical leave of absence from Dolphins

Former Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell is preparing to take a medical leave of absence from the Miami Dolphins. The team announced that Caldwell will not serve as a coach in the 2019 season but will instead remain as a consultant.

The Dolphins hired Caldwell in February as the quarterbacks coach and assistant head coach.

“I will be stepping back due to some medical complications that require my full attention,” Caldwell said in a statement from the Dolphins. “I want to thank Stephen Ross, Chris Grier, Coach Flores and the rest of the organization for the support they have given me and my family.”

The details of his ailment are not specified. Caldwell, 64, coached the Lions from 2014-2017 and compiled a 36-28 overall record. He was very popular with the Lions players during his tenure.

We at Lions Wire wish Caldwell the best in his treatment and recovery.
