Former Linfield forward Paul Smyth announces QPR departure

Paul Smyth has announced he has left Queens Park Rangers.

The 23-year-old confirmed on his social media that his time at Loftus Road has come to an end.

Smyth - who comes out of contract this summer - joined QPR from Linfield in 2017 and went on to score on his debut.

Despite some impressive early appearances, Smyth soon found his first-team opportunities limited and was overlooked by a number of managers at the Championship club.

The 23-year-old ended last season with a second loan spell at Accrington Stanley, and also had loan spells with Charlton and Wycombe.

Speaking on Instagram, Smyth said: "My time at QPR has come to an end! Raging! I didn’t get to show what I can actually do!

"Wish QPR all the best in the future!"

Smyth made just three appearances in the Championship this season with QPR before joining Charlton on loan in October.

He returned to QPR in January before moving to Accrington on loan, where he spent the rest of the season.

He made a total of 35 appearances in League One in 2020/21.

Smyth has made two appearances for Northern Ireland, scoring on his senior debut against South Korea back in March, 2018.
