Former Lincoln City striker joins Notts County's promotion rivals

Influential targetman Matt Rhead has joined Notts County's promotion rivals Boreham Wood.

The former Lincoln City favourite has joined Luke Garrard's promotion-chasers on a deal until the end of the season.

Rhead had been tentatively linked with the Magpies who have been searching for a forward to bolster their own attack.

But after consideration, the Magpies decided to look at other options.

Rhead had been without a club after leaving Billericay earlier in the season as part of cost-cutting measures in the wake of Glenn Tamplin's departure as owner.

Garrard was delighted to add Rhead to his squad and believes he will add a real threat to their attack.

"I flirted with Matt for five/six months since he left Billericay," he said.

“I think if you were to put him in the bracket of a target man, I think he’s one of, if not the best, at this level and above.

“He’ll bring a different aspect to our game because we do like to play, we like to play through the thirds.

“But if teams full press us, we do have the opportunity to go back to front with Matt Rhead providing a focal point and a real presence up top.

“He comes here with a wealth of experience and a hunger. He’s a top, top guy. He wants to go about his business in the right way and we’ve got him on a short-term deal until the end of the season, which I’m delighted about.

“We both have an agenda of where we want to get to, so let’s marry those up and hope he has a successful spell at Boreham Wood.”
