Former Leicester City striker speaks out on Brendan Rodgers to Arsenal links

Emile Heskey sees no reason why Brendan Rodgers should be tempted by the vacant Arsenal manager’s job.

The Leicester City boss is one of the early frontrunners to take over at the Emirates Stadium following the sacking of Unai Emery.

Freddie Ljungberg has been appointed interim head coach as the Gunners begin their search for a new manager, with former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri the current favourite with bookmakers, while Mikel Arteta and Mauricio Pochettino are also in the running.

Rodgers’ name though has been touted by a number of pundits, with his reputation continuing to rise while in charge at Leicester.

The former Liverpool boss has guided the Foxes to a superb start to the season, with his side sitting in the top four and proving to be one of the closest challengers to the Reds at the top of the table.

But, speaking on Sky Sports’ Super Sunday, former Leicester striker Heskey doesn’t feel a move to the Emirates Stadium would suit Rodgers.

Asked if he thinks Rodgers would be tempted, Heskey responded: "I don't see why he would. He has got a project here that has just started.

"Leicester have just moved to a new training facility and they are expanding their stadium. He has the backing of the board and he has the full say in everything. Why would you move somewhere else where it is a massive project to connect everything?

"There is a big difference between the players, the board and the fans. They have to bring someone in who has to try and connect all of that. It's a massive ask."
