Former Leeds United striker claims he was 'frozen out' by Andrea Radrizzani

Former Leeds United striker Marcus Antonsson has revealed he was frozen out of the club by Andrea Radrizzani.

The Swedish forward joined the Whites in 2016 under the stewardship of Massimo Cellino, just before Radrizzani assumed control in 2017.

Antonosson signed a three-year deal at Elland Road but struggled for first-team minutes under Garry Monk due to the fine form of Chris Wood, who netted 27 goals that term.

Monk left unexpectedly at the end of the campaign and Radrizzani then decided to force Antonsson out of the club, according to the striker.

“The way I was frozen out when Leeds changed owners," he told Swedish newspaper Hallandsposten.

"I was not allowed to stay in the same room as the other senior team players – this despite the fact that we did not have a coach.

"It was the sports director and the new owner who wanted to build a new team.”

Antonsson stayed in English football briefly, joining Blackburn Rovers on loan for the 2017/18 campaign before moving to Malmo in at the end of his second year in England.

Despite struggling on the field, Antonsson admitted that the culture surrounding in football in England was a new experience to him.

“It was very exciting. In terms of football, it is an incredible interest and no matter where you go, the team has fanatical supporters – there will be an incredible atmosphere. Football is different – it is very intense and physical,” he said.

“In England, you were treated like a star when you met people – it’s simply great to be a football player there. We enjoyed ourselves very much privately in Leeds and Manchester, which are big cities with a very high pulse. A fun adventure!”
