Former Leeds United striker Caleb Ekuban scores hat-trick in Europa League qualifier

Former Leeds United striker Caleb Ekuban has scored a hat-trick for Trabzonspor in the Europa League.

The Ghana international, 25, confirmed his permanent departure from United on social last week, having spent last season on loan at the Turkish Super Lig club - although there not yet been official word of his exit from the club.

Having originally joined Leeds from Chievo Verona in 2017, he scored one goal for the club in 20 Championship appearances during the 2017-18 season.

He scored all three goals in Trabzonspor’s 3-1 win over Greek side AEK Athens on Thursday evening, a result which takes the club one step closer to the competition proper.

Trabzonspor have also recently announced the signing of former Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge, who left the Merseyside club this summer at the end of his contract and will give the former Leeds man competition up top.

Ekuban is one of many players to have been offloaded by Leeds this summer, with other peripheral squad figures and loanees such Mallik Wilks, Tyler Denton, Paudie O'Connor, Tom Pearce and Aapo Halme allowed to leave.
