Former Leeds United star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink on where Illan Meslier can be helped out by his team-mates

Former Leeds United star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has identified an area where Illan Meslier can be helped out by his team-mates.

The young goalkeeper replaced the suspended Kiko Casilla in Leeds' starting line-up for their win over Hull City, and is expected to continue between the sticks while the Spaniard serves his eight game ban.

The FA finally confirmed on Friday night that Casilla will be banned for eight matches for using racist or discriminatory language following an incident which took place during Leeds' 1-0 loss to Charlton back in September.

And Hasselbaink believes it is key that Leeds’ defenders remember that their new No.1 is left-footed when playing the ball back to him.

“They need to help him better,” he told Sky Sport post-match. "They need to make sure they play on his left more. Physiological because the change happened very quickly because the verdict came yesterday.

“The defenders haven't really realised yet that he is left-footed to play a little bit different. So he has that extra second or that half second more to play it.

“At times they could have helped the goalkeeper a little bit better.”
