Former Leeds United skipper Sol Bamba confirms brilliant news that he is cancer-free

Leeds United have issued a further message of support to their captain Sol Bamba after he announced that he brilliant news is now cancer-free.

The 36-year-old has been undergoing treatment since he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in December, undergoing six rounds of chemotherapy.

The last one of these sessions took place last month and he has now issued a statement on Twitter confirming the good news.

"Hey everyone, just a quick message to inform you that I'm now cancer free!" he posted on Thursday morning.

"It is of course an incredibly heartwarming news for my family and I, we are over the moon right now.

"I really want to thank each and everyone that has been supporting me, whether it's been with a comment, a message, a like or whatever, that definitely gave me extra strength to go through this.

"Above all, I want to thank the family at the NHS who took such good care of me, I will always be grateful for your job.

"Thank you to all my family, my friends and of course the club and everyone one in the football industry that has helped me facing this challenge. I wish you all a blessed day and hopefully will see you soon again on the pitch. Sol."

Leeds United were quick to reply to their former captain on Twitter, posting: "Amazing news! Wishing you all the best!"

Bamba was fit enough to return to training at Cardiff City last month, with Bluebirds boss Mick McCarthy bringing him on as a substitute for the final moments of their 1-1 draw with Rotherham in one of the most emotional moments of the season.

With his statement indicating that he wants to play on, fans will hopefully get the chance to show their support in person next season.
