Former Leeds United skipper Dominic Matteo shares brilliant update on his recovery from brain tumor

Dominic Matteo has revealed that his latest scan was clear following his recent battle against a brain tumour.

The former Leeds United skipper was taken ill last November, undergoing surgery and being placed in intensive care at Leeds General Infirmary.

Over the past six months he has been recovering and today took to Twitter to share the good news from his latest tests.

"Yesterday I got THE phone call, the one I’ve been praying for... my brain scan is clear," he tweeted.

"After 6 months of fear pain rehab surgery and treatment. I’m healthy! It feels unreal!"

Matteo also went on to thank the staff at the LGI and St James' in Leeds for the treatment he has recieved.

"The LGI & St James hospital saved my life. They were simply incredible. Thankyou will never be enough!"

Matteo turned out 146 times for Leeds following his arrival from Liverpool in 2000, with his legendary goal against AC Milan at the San Siro still sung about at every home game.

The Scotland international quickly became a key part of David O'Leary's side, playing a huge role in their 2000-01 Champions League run before the club dropped out of the Premier League in 2004, which brought about the departure of Matteo and the club's other high-earners.
