Former Leeds United man predicts who Marcelo Bielsa's side will face in the play-offs

David Prutton has predicted that Leeds will take on Derby County in the play-offs.

The Whites, who have already confirmed their position in the play-offs after just missing out on automatic promotion, take on Ipswich Town on the final day of the regular season this weekend, knowing all three points at Portman Road would see them secure third.

And Prutton has backed Marcelo Bielsa's side to come out on top in East Anglia, with the 37-year-old predicting a 2-0 win for his former side.

But it’s elsewhere in the division that will be of interest to Leeds fans, as three sides could still face the Whites in the play-offs.

Derby currently occupy the final spot with 71 points, a point more than seventh-placed Middlesbrough and two more than Bristol City in eighth.

And despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Swansea on Wednesday night, Frank Lampard’s side still have their destiny in their own hands, but know anything less than three points against West Brom could open the door to Boro, who will secure a play-off place if they beat Rotherham at the New York Stadium and the Rams fail to overcome Albion.

But if the Rams lose and Boro draw, Bristol City will sneak into sixth if they win at Hull City - while if both Derby and Boro finish level on points, the Rams will finish above Tony Pulis' side due to a superior goal difference.

But Prutton believes Lampard’s side will sneak past Albion, who may make changes ahead of their own play-off game next week.

"Derby are in pole position as they currently occupy sixth and know it is in their hands,” Prutton told SkySports.

“They also have the advantage of playing at home on the final day, as they host West Brom, while Boro head to Rotherham and Bristol City visit Hull.

“Rotherham will want to put on a show in front of their home fans before preparing for life in League One, but Middlesbrough should have enough to see them off.

“That will put the pressure on Derby, but West Brom will likely make a few changes and I think the Rams can sneak it, therefore claiming sixth place.”
