Former Leeds United favourite Luciano Becchio pays tribute to Whites after promotion confirmed

Former fans' favourite Luciano Becchio has paid tribute to everyone associated with Leeds United after the club sealed its return to the Premier League on Friday evening.

After getting the better of Yorkshire rivals Barnsley in a tight, cagey affair at Elland Road on Thursday evening, the Whites knew they would be promoted back to the top flight of English football if West Bromwich Albion failed to beat Huddersfield Town, who were still in desperate need for points themselves in the battle to beat the drop.

And the Baggies did just that, losing 2-1 to the lowly Terriers, with Arsenal loanee Emile Smith Rowe netting an 86th-minute winner for Danny Cowley's side, ensuring Leeds sealed their return to the Premier League without kicking a ball.

The result in the blue & white corner in West Yorkshire was celebrated even louder in Leeds, with thousands upon thousands of fans lining the streets around Elland Road to celebrate their long-awaited achievement.

Chairman Andrea Radrizzani, the players and supporters all came together as one to celebrate, whilst head coach Marcelo Bielsa was mobbed by supporters outside his home in Wetherby.

Whilst the supporters and players celebrated together, and others danced in the streets, several well-known figures in the world of football, as well as former players, took to social media to congratulate the Whites on their return to the Promised Land.

Amongst them was former Whites striker Becchio, who established himself as one of the most popular players in Leeds' recent history between 2008 and 2013.

The Argentine striker, who the assistant manager of Argentinian club Atletico Baleares, heaped praise on the work of owner Andrea Radrizzani, Bielsa and the players before thanking the fans.

On Twitter, Becchio wrote: "So emotional... after 16 years this great club is back where it deserves to be. Thanks Marcelo, thanks boys ,thanks Andrea. And thanks to the fans for the unconditional support. @LUFC."
