Former Leeds United defender joins Airdrieonians

Airdrieonians have confirmed the signing of former Leeds United defender Luke Lyons.

Lanarkshire Live Sport revealed yesterday that boss Ian Murray was set to offer the 20-year-old a deal after a successful trial and the Diamonds have secured his signature, subject to international clearance.

Lyons, who came through the academy at Elland Road, told airdriefc.com: “I’m delighted to sign for Airdrie, I’ve enjoyed my time here so far and I’m ready for the season ahead.

“As soon as I spoke to the manager I knew it was a good fit for me, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Manager Ian Murray said: "We had Luke in for 7-10 days after getting a recommendation from someone we know down south, and he was everything that they said.

“We’re delighted to sign him and give him a platform to go and play again after some bad luck, but he’s had a great background down at Leeds and I think he’s got a real chance of having a big future.”

The signing of Lyons comes after the Diamonds this morning signed former Motherwell midfielder Matthew McDonald.
