Former Leeds United boss wants 2019/20 season expunged in big Nottingham Forest blow

Ex-Leeds United boss Steve Evans has called for the EFL to end his former side's Premier League promotion dreams by deeming the 2019/20 campaign as 'null and void'.

The Gillingham manager are currently lingering in mid-table in League One and do boast an outside shot at snatching a play-off place.

But that has not stopped him from demanding that the EFL cancel the season, a decision that would see runaway Championship duo Leeds and West Brom remain in the Championship.

It would also end Nottingham Forest's hopes of securing promotion to the top flight with a play-off campaign still very much on the cards.

GARIBALDI RED: Paul Hart on the style of play he implemented at Forest

“We certainly can’t be completing the season in August, September or October,” he told Kent Online.

“I am very focussed that we will hopefully go back to playing football, but there are lots of things we need to overcome."

“If we are not playing by July then I think then results [should be] expunged," he admitted.

"It would hurt the teams that I love enormously, teams like Leeds United. I have love for Peterborough United and I have a love in Scotland for Celtic to be champions.

"But, at the end of the day, if you can’t play the games, forget points average, forget everything."

He added: "This is unprecedented and it should be season expunged and people start again, start again as we started last summer.”

Yesterday the EFL penned a letter to all 71 clubs making clear their intentions to complete the league season when it is safe to do so, but the Premier League must provide UEFA with plans on when football will return before May 25.
