Former Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom linked with Premier League U23s job

Former Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom is reportedly set to join Sheffield United as their new under-23s boss.

The ex-Whites boss is eyeing a return to the game following his exit from Scottish side Hibernian last November and the Sun report that he is being lined up for a role at Bramall Lane.

The Blades are looking to fill the role that was made vacant when former Leeds man Andy Hughes left the club earlier this summer after a year in charge.

Heckingbottom's appointment would be seen as something as a coup for the Yorkshire side, with the 42-year-old being linked with a number of senior posts.

The reports claims that the chance to work for a Premier League side would appeal to the former Barnsley boss, who spent just four months at Elland Road, winning four of his 16 games in charge.

He would be replaced by Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds in June 2018 and his next move saw him join Hibs in February 2019. A promising start which saw him claim manager of the month honours in March ebbed away and he was dismissed after winning just one of his first 11 games the following season.

Prior to his disappointing stint at Leeds, Heckingbottom won the League One playoffs and Football League Trophy with the Tykes in 2015-16.
