Former Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn linked with return to Championship

Former Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn could be set for a return to the Championship after he was linked with the vacant Luton Town job.

The Hatters parted company with Graeme Jones on Friday after the 50-year-old had his contract terminated 'by mutual consent'.

Luton, who sit second bottom of the Championship six points off safety, said that the decision was made 'in order to reduce its cost base', as they look to adapt to the current shutdown.

Jones had been in charge since January 2019 and helped the club win promotion from League One last season.

Chief recruitment officer Mick Harford has been placed in temporary charge, but according to a report in the Daily Star Sunday, the club could turn to former Whites chief Neil Redfearn when their is a clear picture of when the season will restart.

Redfearn's last position was a five month stint as Newcastle United's under-23 coach last year.

During his time at Leeds he worked his way up the academy coaching set-up and had three stints as caretaker manager for the first-team before given the job permanently in the 2014-15 season.

Despite the chaotic nature of the club at that time under Massimo Cellino, Redfearn was able bring through a number of young players, with the likes of Lewis Cook, Sam Byram, Charlie Taylor and Kalvin Phillips all benefiting from his coaching.

Redfearn's experience in developing young players is said to be one of the key factors driving Luton's interest in the 54-year-old.
