Former Leeds United boss favourite for Blackpool job after Simon Grayson exit

Former Leeds United boss Simon Grayson was 'relived of his duties' at Blackpool yesterday after the Seasiders fell to a seventh defeat in ten matches.

A 3-2 loss at home to Gillingham saw Blackpool slip to 15th place in the table, with the 50--year-old being relieved of his duties.

The club did not confirm any details regarding a caretaker boss, but another familiar face to Leeds United fans is the current front runner to replace Grayson.

Paul Heckingbottom has emerged as the favourite for the vacant post, with our sister title LancsLive reporting that Marcelo Bielsa's predecessor at Elland Road is a 7/4 shot to land the job with BetVictor.

Heckingbottom has been out of work since he was sacked by Hibernian in November. That was his first job since his four-month, 16-match spell in charge at Leeds in 2018.

Grayson had returned to his former side Blackpool in July 2019, with the club confirming news of his departure in a statement on their website.

"The club would like to thank Simon for his efforts during his time back at Bloomfield Road and wish him well for the future.

"A further announcement will follow in due course."

The Seasiders currently sit 14 points clear of the bottom three in League One, but 13 points adrift of the play-offs.
