Former Leeds boss calls for players to take action that will interest Nottingham Forest stars

Former Leeds United manager Simon Grayson believes players across the country should take pay cuts to help clubs get through the coronavirus suspension.

Nottingham Forest’s season has been suspended due to the COVID-19 oubtreak, with no football scheduled to be played until after April 30, at the earliest.

The Reds have nine league fixtures remaining in their Sky Bet Championship campaign, but all but one of them has been postponed, with the final day clash against Stoke at the City Ground on May 2 the only match still down to go ahead.

Prior to the suspension, Sabri Lamouchi’s side were challenging for promotion to the Premier League, and sat in fifth place in the Championship standings.

The Professional Footballers' Association has called for urgent talks with the Premier League and the EFL over the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic on players and clubs.

The loss of matchday revenue due to the suspension of professional football in England has hit clubs hard, particularly in the EFL, and raised the prospect of clubs asking players to accept wage deferrals.

Grayson, who has also managed Huddersfield Town, Preston North End, Sunderland, Bradford and Blackpool as well as Leeds, told Sky Sports: "I think it's a good thing, especially at the top end of the football pyramid.

"Players earn enough money that they can filter it down to people that just do the day-to-day jobs of the running behind the scenes of football clubs - as in cleaners, administrators and other staff.

"Right the way down to League One, League Two, Conference, it's not easy. The revenue is not there for these clubs that (can't) finances themselves every day.

"I think if anybody can do anything - players, football clubs - then it's going to be a great help to everybody in this industry of football."
