The joint owners of the former Lafarge Cement Ireland business have rebranded the County Tyrone company as Cemcor.
The move follows the purchase of the Cookstown firm by Cookstown Cement in January 2022, a joint venture between solid fuel LCC Group and Cemcor’s managing director David Millar, a former executive with Lafarge.
Cemcor’s Cookstown cement plant has a capacity of 450,000 tonnes a year while Cemcit also owns a limestone quarry near the town, a shale quarry in Dungannon and an import/export facility in Belfast Harbour. The owners said they will be investment £15 million in the business to upgrade its capacity and its sustainability.
In a statement it said it expects further growth “cementing itself as industry leaders”.
Mr Millar said the business has performed impressively under its new ownership.
“Since acquiring the business in January of this year, it has gone from strength to strength,” he said. “There is a strong foundation and solid team around Cemcor which is beginning to see the benefits of the increased investment.
“We have a long term plan for the company with a huge focus on sustainability and our processes. The investments to the plant are in line with the UK Environmental Agency, will help lower the CO2 footprint and ensure its longevity as the construction industry continues to evolve.”
Joint owner LCC Group is also based in Cookstown and one of Northern Ireland’s largest companies.
