Alex Dyer is back in football after being appointed assistant manager at Colchester United today.
The former Kilmarnock boss makes his return to the game in Essex following his departure from Rugby Park in January.
Dyer, 55, will be No 2 to Hayden Mullins who kept the U's in Sky Bet League Two following a wretched campaign.
Colchester parted company with last summer's appointment Steve Ball and then dispensed with the services of interim gaffer Wayne Brown in March with Mullins ultimately getting them over the safety line as Essex rivals Southend United and Grimsby Town went down to the Vanarama National League.
Speaking to Colchester United's TV channel, Dyer said: "When I got a chance to join up with Hayden again, we are always speaking on the phone, and he asked me if I wanted to help out and I do.
"I spoke to Hayden in February, but there wasn't an opportunity then, but I have jumped at the chance to work with him ahead of next season."
