BENGALURU: Alerted by his daughter, who had witnessed two bike-borne men snatching a mobile phone on Hebbal flyover and had made a note of the two-wheeler on Saturday night, a former Karnataka State Pollution Control Board chairman tried to convey the same to police. But he was shocked to realise the guardians of the law did not share his concern in acting swiftly and nabbing the culprits.
Sharatchandra HC, former KSPCB chairperson, took to Twitter and shared how “for the trouble” he took to inform the police control room at 11.20pm, he had to stay awake till 1am answering calls from policemen. “This is the reason no one wants to help police,” he tweeted.
“What is surprising is the control room is manned not by police but by contract employees who don’t even know where Hebbal flyover is,” Sharatchandra said on social media.
He said when he first called the control room, they took five minutes to respond. The woman who finally answered went on asking about the location where the incident happened. His calls to Hebbal police station were not picked up. Fifteen minutes later, someone from the station called, but when Sharatchandra gave the caller the details, he was told the incident fell under Amruthahalli police limits. Two more cops called him later seeking details.
An official from Amruthahallil police station told TOI the aggrieved person had come on Saturday night to register a complaint. “However, an FIR couldn’t be registered since he needed to provide us an IMEI number. He has not got back to us with it.”
