A South Australian school teacher has been ordered to stand trial over more than a dozen child sex offences.

Thomas Robert Ackland, 29, pleaded not guilty in the Adelaide Magistrates Court to nine counts of maintaining an unlawful sexual relationship with a child and five counts of communicating to make a child amenable to sexual activity.

The court heard the alleged offending occurred between 2018 and 2020.

The former teacher at Kadina Memorial School on the Yorke Peninsula was arrested last March and first faced the Kadina Magistrates Court.

The Moonta Bay resident has been banned from the school and stood down from his job pending the outcome of the court proceedings.

Mr Ackland has been remanded on continuing bail to face court again in April.
