Former Juventus youngster who could be given his big chance for Brighton against Newcastle

Brighton boss Graham Potter could hand former Juventus youngster Andi Zeqiri a starting role against Newcastle on Saturday night.

The Swiss star replaced the injured Dan Burn in last weekend's 2-1 win over Southampton, a victory which lifted the Seagulls above United in the Premier League table.

The two sides go head-to-head at the Amex Stadium this weekend in what is a must-win game for Steve Bruce's men, especially if Fulham move out of the bottom three with a win over Leeds on Friday night.

However, Blyth-born Burn could miss the game with a hamstring problem, and Potter would have no problem turning to Zeqiri again, despite the fact he was signed as a forward.

Zeqiri has had to bide his time on the south coast since arriving from Lausanne last summer, with the likes of Danny Welbeck, Neal Maupay and Aaron Connolly all ahead of him in the first-team pecking order.

Brighton paid £3.5m for his services after impressing in his native Switzerland and in a season-long loan deal with Juventus' youth set-up and, while he is yet to start a Premier League game, he comes into the reckoning for the visit of Newcastle.

Our sister site Sussex Live report Zeqiri made a big impression against Southampton on Sunday, and Potter would have no hesitation in turning to the 21-year-old if needed against Newcastle this weekend.

"He has played there a couple of times," Potter said of Zeqiri.

"We have used him in some games. Like anything he adapted to it. What he brings is a real personality.

"He presses, plays on the front foot, wants to affect the game, so yes it is a possibility."

Michal Karbownik or Steven Alzate are also in line to replace Burn should the hamstring injury rule him out.

Newcastle are expected to be without their injured trio of Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin and Fabian Schar, although Miguel Almiron has an outside chance of being involved if he can prove his fitness in training this week.
