Former Juventus director reveals how close Paul Pogba came to Manchester United exit

Former Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici admits Paul Pogba has never been close to re-signing for the Italian side since he returned to Manchester United five years ago.

Pogba, 28, is entering the final year of his current deal at United and as such continues to be linked with a high-profile away in almost every single transfer window.

Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are the four sides most regularly linked with a move for the Frenchman but new Tottenham managing director Paratici insists a return to Turin was never seriously discussed.

Pogba left United for Juventus back in 2012 but would return to Manchester just four years later, however the Italian club's former sporting director admits they have never been close to a deal regarding any possible reunion.

"Paul Pogba back to Juventus? I think it is very difficult," Paratici, who is now managing director of football at Tottenham, told Sky Sport .

"There has never been a moment in which we have been close to taking him back."

Pogba is currently away on holiday following France's elimination from the European Championship a week ago.

The United midfielder made a case to be considered for Player of the Tournament but saw his hopes of a personal accolade dashed by the early exit at the hands of Switzerland.

Following the exit Pogba dodged a question from Spanish broadcasters asking why he doesn't already play for Real Madrid.
