Former Jets RB Isaiah Crowell signs with Oakland Raiders

Former Jets running back Isaiah Crowell has found a new home, signing with the Oakland Raiders on Thursday afternoon.

Crowell reached a one-year deal worth up to $2.5 million with the Raiders after signing a three-year deal worth $12 million with New York last offseason.

The Jets released Crowell after they signed Le’Veon Bell to a lucrative deal in free agency. With Bell in the mix, Crowell became the odd man out by default, as New York’s backfield became too crowded with Elijah McGuire and Trenton Cannon also factoring into next season’s plans.

Crowell showed some flashes of promise with the Jets, but ultimately, his tenure with the team will go down as disappointing.

In a Week 5 matchup against the Denver Broncos, Crowell finished with 219 rushing yards, including a 77-yard touchdown run. His 219 rushing yards set a new Jets franchise record and he was awarded AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance.

From there, Crowell sustained a toe injury that took its toll for the remainder of the season. He started six out of 13 games for the Jets, running the ball 143 times for 685 yards and scoring six touchdowns before being placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Crowell will make his return to New York this upcoming season when the Raiders travel to MetLife Stadium to take on the Jets.
