Former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason is finally headed to the Hall of Fame, just not the one you might think.
Esiason will not be immortalized for his play on the football field, but rather his work as a radio personality. Now a known sports radio personality on WFAN, he was elected to the New York State Broadcasters Association’s Hall of Fame.
While Esiason was an above-average QB during his time with the Jets, Bengals and Cardinals, he is arguably more recognizable in the tri-state area for being on WFAN radio for the past decade.
For the past 10 years, Esiason has been a fixture on WFAN’s morning show. He hosted a show with Craig Carton for eight years before Carton resigned from the show. Gregg Giannotti has been Esiason’s co-host since the beginning of 2018.
From 1993-95, Esiason quarterbacked Gang Green. During three seasons in New York, he threw for 49 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. He guided the Jets offense under three head coaches, Bruce Coslet, Pete Caroll and Rich Kotite. The Jets subsequently released Esiason three years after trading for him due to a severe concussion.
Over a 14-year NFL career, Esiason went to four Pro Bowls and was named as an All-Pro in 1988, as well as being the NFL’s Most Valuable Player the same season.
Along with his work at WFAN, Esiason is an analyst on CBS’s NFL pre-game show, “NFL Today.”
