Former Jets head coach Rex Ryan to compete in ‘The Amazing Race’

Rex Ryan has been around the block in the world of football, including a stop as head coach of the New York Jets, leading the franchise to appearances in the AFC Championship Game during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Now, he’ll go around the world in what may be his greatest challenge yet.

Ryan, 59, will partner with golfing buddy and probation officer Tim Mann as they compete in season 34 of the CBS reality show “The Amazing Race.” They will be one of 12 teams competing in the new season, which may be the most brutal season ever, as there will be no non-elimination legs.

This will be the first season of “The Amazing Race” in which the race begins outside the United States. The starting line for this season will be in Munich, which this fall will be also the site of the first-ever NFL game in Germany.  The Seattle Seahawks will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Allianz Arena on Nov. 13.

Will Ryan and Mann take flight in this race and claim the $1 million prize? Or will the competition prove too much for the former leader of Gang Green?

Season 34 of “The Amazing Race” premieres Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. ET.
