Former Jets G Dakota Dozier signs with Vikings

On a day where all of the attention was understandably on the Gang Green’s new uniforms, the Vikings signed ex-Jets offensive lineman Dakota Dozier.

Dozier, 27, was a fourth-round pick of the Jets’ back in 2014. While he never was never more than a backup in New York, he was asked to start in three games in 2017 when right guard Brian Winters missed some extended time due to an injury.

Earlier in the offseason, the Jets signed Tom Compton, who ironically was a former member of the Vikings. That move all but sealed Dozier’s fate in terms of returning to the Jets.

It will be interesting to see what role Dozier plays on a Vikings team that can certainly use some help on the offensive line.

Dozier is now reunited with offensive line coach Rick Dennison, who was a member of the Jets coaching staff in 2018 but was let go once the Jets decided to part ways with former head coach Todd Bowles and the majority of his staff.

Offensive line depth is important in the NFL, and Dozier will provide the Vikings and expensive quarterback Kirk Cousins with exactly that in 2019.
