Former Jets CB Derrick Jones fails physical with Packers

After being claimed by the Packers on Sunday, former Jets cornerback Derrick Jones finds himself back on the waiver wire.

According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Jones failed his physical with Green Bay and was placed back on waivers. His stint with the Packers lasted all of two days.

Jones was a sixth-round pick by the Jets in 2017 out of Ole Miss. For most of his college career, Jones played wide receiver before converting to cornerback. In two seasons with New York, he failed to adjust adequately to life in the secondary, appearing in four games and recording only three tackles and no interceptions.

Jones is the sixth member of Mike Maccagnan’s 2017 draft class to be given the ax, joining ArDarius Stewart, Chad Hansen, Jordan Leggett, Dylan Donahue and Jeremy Clark. Only Jamal Adams, Marcus Maye and Elijah McGuire remain.

Jones will hit the waiver wire in search of a new home once again. If a team claims him, he’ll have to get his act together and pass a physical to remain on the roster.
