Former Jags OT Ereck Flowers signs a 1-year deal with Redskins

After visiting the Washington Redskins Sunday night, former Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Ereck Flowers has found his new team. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the fifth-year player signed a one-year deal with the team in an attempt to shed his label as a first-round bust.

Flowers, 24, was selected by the New York Giants with the No. 9 overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft out of the University of Miami, but struggled mightily throughout his tenure there. He still managed to start in 51 games between both tackle positions and added seven more starts to his name after he was released and signed with the Jags.

Flowers performed well enough to get a similar deal with the Jags as a backup after accumulating a grade of 65.1, per Pro Football Focus, however, it appears the Jags thought differently. That said, it will be interesting to see what the team does in terms of finding offensive line depth as they could use another reserve offensive tackle.

The Redskins recently lost one of the reserve offensive tackle Ty Nsekhe to the Buffalo Bills, which explains their need for an experienced player like Flowers. He should feel right at home with them after spending almost four seasons in the NFC East and may even be able to resurrect his career with the right circumstances.
