Former Jags DT Malik Jackson expected to sign with Eagles on a 3-year deal

After being released Friday, it took Malik Jackson just a couple days to find work as it appears he’ll be going to another championship caliber defense. Per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the veteran defensive tackle is expected to sign a three-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles soon that will be worth $30 million.

Jackson, 29, wasn’t expected to be on the market long as he still looks to be a top-5 three-technique pass rusher in the league in the interior. The Eagles’ defense which runs similar concepts to the Jags under Jim Schwartz seems to be a good fit for him, and he’ll definitely offer them a player who can get to the quarterback like Michael Bennett did before he was traded to the New England Patriots.

The Jags moved on from Jackson to save $11 million in cap space after drafting his successor in Taven Bryan during last April’s draft. The rookie was initially given a shot on the edge, however, late in the season it became clear he was a better interior rusher and he’s expected to see significant play time in Jackson’s place if not name the starter at defensive tackle.

As for Jackson, he’ll enter his tenure with the Eagles with a career total of 239 tackles and 32 sack to his name.
