Former Irish Mirror journalist appointed one of top advisors to the Government

A former Irish Mirror journalist has been appointed one of the top advisors to the Government.

Paul Clarkson, in his early 40s, will take up the senior role as Government Press Secretary on Monday.

Mr Clarkson was a reporter and later News Editor on the Irish Mirror in a 20-year career that spanned both sides of the border.

He was also Editor of the Irish Sun and Managing Editor of the Sun in the UK.

The father-of-three, who grew up in Belfast, returned to Ireland in the Summer.

He told the Mirror on Friday night: “I am honoured and excited to be joining such a talented and  dedicated team at such a vital time for the country.”

The outgoing Government Press Secretary Lisa-Dee Collery is moving to the Taoiseach’s new Shared Island Unit and will help with Brexit preparations.
