Former Irish League ace Andy Mathieson pranks pal over Liverpool celebrations

Former Irish League ace Andy Mathieson pranked one of his best pals after their Liverpool title celebrations went too far.

Andy - who played over 250 games for Glentoran - decided to have some fun at friend Mark Devenney's expense.

During the early hours of Saturday morning, Andy erected a Manchester United jersey on the front of Mark's house while he slept.

He also hid some other United memorabilia in his garden.

"Mark supports Liverpool and Coleraine, so he has nothing going for him," Andy joked.

"I live just around the corner from Mark in Dundonald. His wee cul-de-sac is full of Man Utd, City and Chelsea supporters, and he has been tortured for years.

"Since Thursday he has been putting flags and bunting all around his house. He keeps going on about how long he has had to wait to celebrate this league title.

"He is making the most of it. To be fair he deserves it, it's good banter."

Andy joined in the prank after getting a call from one of Mark's neighbours, David West, who also used to play for the Glens.

"David called me and said do you fancy coming down and putting your United top on Mark's house," Andy explained.

"I said no bother and headed down this morning at about 5am with two big ladders and got it on top of his house.

"I put it above his Liverpool flag, just to prove Manchester United are still above Liverpool.

"We also hid a Man United golf ball in one of his trees where he can't see it. He hates anything to do with United so he will detest this."

Andy joked that Mark "was not happy" with the morning raid, and had some evidence on who committed the comical crime.

"He said he looked at his CCTV cameras and saw my van driving into his cul-de-sac, so he is blaming me," Andy laughed.

"He has been calling us every name under the sun, but he saw the funny side as well.

"He is a proper die-hard Liverpool fan. He hates anything bar Liverpool, especially Manchester United.

"I dare say we'll never hear the end of this, a bit like Liverpool winning the title."
