Former Ireland and Barcelona youth star Louie Barry enjoys best moment of his life against Liverpool

Former Republic of Ireland youth international Louie Barry described his goal against Liverpool as being the best moment of his life.

The 17-year-old scored past Caoimhin Kelleher for Aston Villa in their 4-1 defeat to the Premier League champions in Friday night's FA Cup clash.

Barry represented Ireland at U15 and U16 level before switching his allegiance back to England.

He also played for Barcelona's youth academy before signing for Villa last year.

Speaking after Friday's game, Barry told Villa TV: "I feel the team deserved it as well for how we applied ourselves to the half, and even the second half.

"When I scored, it was a surreal moment. You could see all the relief coming out of me and the team, everyone jumping on each other.

"It was the best moment of my life and probably their lives as well."

Villa's youngsters were thrust into action in the wake of the positive coronavirus cases in the first-team squad and Jurgen Klopp praised their efforts after the game.

The Liverpool boss told BT Sport: "The kids did really well, that's good.

"We had football problems. We needed a little bit longer but then it was completely clear.

"Problems in passing and moving. Too many on the wrong side of the ball - not enough recoveries of passes. We had chances and shot the ball directly at the goalie - we changed it in the second half.

"It was rusty but better in the second half. Against Southampton [1-0 defeat] from the first second they were more on the pitch but that was not the case today."
