Former Husky QB Jake Browning met with Seahawks at NFL combine

The Seattle Seahawks will likely have at least one more quarterback in camp next summer to compete against Paxton Lynch for the job as Russell Wilson’s backup.

That quarterback could be just a short trip over Lake Washington away.

Seattle had informal meetings at the NFL combine with Jake Browning, the former University of Washington quarterback.

Browning said he spoke with Austin Davis, who is now an offensive assistant with the Seahawks after serving as their backup quarterback in 2017. They discussed Browning’s arm strength, which is considered his biggest weakness heading into the draft.

Browning finished his four-year career at UW with 958 completions, 12,296 yards and 94 touchdowns, winning the PAC-12 offensive player of the year as a sophomore in 2016. He is fourth all-time in passing yards and sixth all-time in completions and touchdowns in PAC-12 history.

However, questions about his arm strength, mobility and poise have damaged his draft stock. Most expect him to go undrafted and end up in training camp somewhere competing for a backup role.

Possibly across the lake from Seattle at the Seahawks’ practice facility in Renton.
