A FORMER Hunter youth worker has been charged with 85 fresh offences including sexual assault.
Police arrested the 71-year-old on Tuesday at Lake Macquarie, charging him with a string of historical offences including 29 counts of indecent assault and 11 counts of sexual intercourse with a person aged between 10 and 16 years old.
It follows an investigation dubbed Strike Force Eiraban that began in November last year to examine allegations of alleged child sexual offences against two teenagers in Muswellbrook and Gateshead that occurred between 1990 and 2004.
That led police to investigate reports two men known to each other sexually abused multiple children between the 1960s and mid 2000s while working at a youth centre in Muswellbrook.
The 71-year-old, one of two people arrested, was formally refused bail in Port Macquarie on Wednesday.
The other man, a 67-year-old arrested in Wauchope, received conditional bail. Both men will face Belmont Local Court in January.
Police said investigations continue.
